The people keeping Cheshire moving

Led by Clinic Director and Head Sports Therapist Lee Wilkinson, alongside a team of experienced therapists across Crewe, Nantwich and Northwich.

Lee Wilkinson

Owner & Head Sports Therapist · Run Coach

Lee is the owner and Head Sports Therapist at LW Sports Therapy, bringing more than ten years of clinical experience working with runners, athletes and active individuals across a wide range of sports and abilities.

Since establishing LW Sports Therapy in 2016, the business has grown from a single clinic into a team of four experienced Sports Therapists working across three clinic locations, while maintaining the personal, professional approach that has been at the heart of it from the beginning.

Lee holds an Advanced Level 5 Diploma in Clinical Sports Therapy and Remedial Therapy, having originally qualified in Sports Massage at South Cheshire College in 2013 before continuing his education with the Active Health Group Academy in Manchester, and spending three years working under Brian Cole at Coles Injury & Rehabilitation clinic. His additional training includes Dry Needling, Acupuncture and Dry Cupping, alongside continued professional development in sports injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and exercise therapy, with a particular specialism in running injuries.

Lee has also completed his Pro Sport Academy training through the Pro Sport Mentorship programme, developing his knowledge of sports injury rehabilitation, exercise prescription and working with athletes in a sporting environment. He works with Crewe Alexandra FC alongside the physio team, providing pre- and post-match treatment to help the first team prepare and recover.

Lee is a full member of both the Sports Therapy Organisation (STO) and the Sports Massage Association (SMA), and is registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Alongside his clinical work, Lee is an experienced runner and endurance athlete. Fell, trail and ultramarathon running have been a major part of his life for many years. He completed his first 100-mile ultramarathon in 2016 and the Brathay 10in10 Challenge twice, in 2020 and 2023, running ten marathons in ten consecutive days around Lake Windermere. Next year he takes on the Winter Spine Challenger South.

He is also the owner and coach behind LW Run Coach, providing individualised coaching and training plans for runners from a wide range of backgrounds, from those taking on their first events through to experienced marathon and ultramarathon runners.

His approach combines hands-on sports therapy, injury assessment, rehabilitation and strength and exercise therapy, with a particular passion for helping runners and athletes understand their injuries, build resilience and return confidently to the activities and sports they love.

“My aim has always been to provide more than just treatment. I want people to understand why they are experiencing a problem, what we can do about it, and give them the tools and confidence to get back to doing what they love.”

Laura Gray

Sports Therapist

Laura graduated as a Sports Therapist BSc (Hons) in 2016 from Leeds Beckett University. Years of racing at a high level sparked a keen interest in the treatment, management and prevention of injuries.

She spent five years with the NHS in a rehabilitation team as a physio assistant practitioner, gaining a wealth of skills across post-operative hip and knee surgery, orthopaedics, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Wanting to focus primarily on musculoskeletal work, she left the NHS in 2021 to join LW Sports Therapy full time.

Laura has thoroughly enjoyed working with clients over the years, seeing them progress and restoring functional movement for sport and everyday life alike.

Away from clinic Laura is usually swimming, cycling or running. The last few years have focused on the half ironman distance with eyes on going professional. 2022 saw her first 70.3 World Champs start line in America, finishing 9th overall, 4th in age group and 1st British woman home. In April 2023 she took on her Ironman debut in Texas, finishing 2nd overall lady and winning her age group by an hour in a time of 9:33.

Whether it is pain management or an athletic or personal goal, Laura has a huge passion for helping you get there, tailoring treatment to your needs. Laura works from the Crewe clinic.

Jeff Capper

Sports Therapist

Jeff has always enjoyed keeping fit. It started with road cycling at elite level, competing in races across the UK and Europe. Throughout that time he had regular massage as part of his maintenance programme, to help his body cope with the training load and to keep him injury free.

Later he moved on to running, on trail, fell and road. Having frequently turned to Lee's expertise through injury, he became more interested in massage and the way the body responds to treatment. Interested enough that he went on to qualify as a sports massage therapist, and is now a qualified Sports Therapist.

Massage and strength training are an integral part of his own training, helping him get stronger and faster while aiding recovery and keeping him injury free. That has shown in recent personal bests at both half marathon and marathon, and in completing the Mallorca 312 bike race. Next year he takes on the European Gravel Race Championships in Finland.

Jeff is looking forward to using his experience and knowledge to help treat others and keep them injury free, and to working with Lee and the team.

Lesley Dawson

Sports Massage Therapist

After studying Sport and Exercise Science at university, Lesley went on to complete the Level 3 VTCT Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy. She then gained her qualifications as both a Level 2 Gym Instructor and a Level 3 Personal Trainer.

Alongside working part time at the clinic, Lesley works for a British ski team based in Austria. She is a keen triathlete and loves all things sport.

“From personal experience, I know how good it feels to receive a sports massage. It's great being able to share sporting stories and help people feel ready to train again.”

Tom Warburton

Sports Therapist

Tom is a qualified Sports Therapist with a First Class degree in Sports Therapy, an upcoming MSc in Physiotherapy, and an ITTMiF qualification. With a strong personal background in sport and competition, Tom has a particular passion for working with athletes and active individuals, helping them recover from injury, stay performing and return to the sports they love.

Sport has always been a major part of Tom's life. He is a keen runner and has completed a wide range of races, giving him first-hand experience of the physical demands of training, competing and managing injury. This personal experience helps him understand the challenges athletes face when trying to stay consistent and perform at their best.

Cricket is Tom's biggest sporting passion. He currently plays locally and has previously represented his country at age-group level. He also has a strong interest in football and golf, giving him an understanding of the different physical demands across a variety of sports.

Tom takes an athlete-focused approach to Sports Therapy, looking beyond simply managing pain to understand the cause of an injury and develop a clear pathway back to full training and performance. His clinical interests include sports injury assessment, hands-on treatment, rehabilitation, exercise therapy and injury prevention, with a particular passion for working with runners and athletes.

Whether helping an athlete return from injury, supporting a runner preparing for their next race or helping someone stay active and performing at their best, Tom aims to provide individualised treatment and rehabilitation built around the person, their sport and their goals.

What our clients say

Runners, athletes and everyday people across Cheshire.

★★★★★

I would recommend Lee. Not only one of the nicest guys I know, he really knows his stuff. I have walked and hobbled into Lee's office and come out skipping every time. Today I had a dreadful night's sleep as my back had gone tight, and within five minutes he had found the spot causing the pain. He goes the extra mile to help. Thank you Lee.

I had been having problems with my hip for a couple of weeks training for a marathon. I was struggling to walk before I turned to Lee, and I am kicking myself for not going sooner. Within a few minutes he had diagnosed the problem and started correcting the muscle causing the pain. Two days later I am running pain free. Professional and a brilliant bloke too.

Absolute miracle worker. Kept me going when I ran 5 marathons in a month and continues to keep me from breaking now.

Not just a sports therapist

I have been coming to Lee for regular massages for a couple of years, running 35 to 60 miles a week. Lee is always thorough and meticulous. I recommended him to my mum, who had suffered foot pain for years and been seeing a hospital physio with no improvement. She visited Lee once about 18 months ago and has had no pain since. I could not recommend him highly enough.

Lee is absolutely fantastic. I have been injured and Lee has helped me recover and kept me moving. I have rung him at short notice and he always does his utmost to fit me in. I would not go anywhere else for my treatment.

Lee's support means I can train harder, and that is reflected in my results over the last couple of years. I have got personal bests in everything from 5k to marathon, won the mixed pairs in an off-road ultra and represented Cheshire in the British Fell Championship.

Well, what can I say. This guy keeps me doing the things I love to do.

Over the last 5 years I have put my body through a variety of training, from high-altitude trekking to road, trail and weight training. Lee has been and will continue to be my sports therapist. I find him very approachable for advice when training for big events, and if I do pick up a strain he helps me recover as quickly as possible. I would recommend Lee to anyone.

I found Lee and his team at LW Sports Therapy a few years ago after picking up an injury. I asked for recommendations for a physio in my gym's Facebook group, and LW Sports Therapy came highly recommended. Every time I've been, whether seeing Lee or Jeff, they've quickly identified the problem and advised on a solution, which has always worked. I really struggle with being told to just sit still and rest, so one of the things I really value about Lee and Jeff is that they always encourage a proactive approach to recovery. Having things I can actually do to help myself recover makes me feel like I'm actively in control of getting better, rather than just waiting for an injury to heal. Most recently, I picked up a new type of injury that I couldn't quite pinpoint myself. I tried to self-diagnose but failed. After just a few questions, Jeff quickly identified what I'd done and put together a rehab plan. I'm already seeing the benefits and it's really helped. I'm booked in again for a review and feel really confident in the treatment and advice I've received. I genuinely couldn't recommend LW Sports Therapy enough!

I had a deep tissue massage booked with Lee. Was expecting the usual soft touch massage and no discussion. But Lee was great, really getting to know my symptoms, background. Not just a great massage but left armed with information and support to help me on the road to recovery, next appointment already booked. Thank you Lee.

Fantastic to find a Sports Therapist who shares the same passion for running! Highly recommend.

Fantastic, Lee is a magician, almost instant improvement following a couple of exercises. The videos provided are easy to follow and will ensure I'm able to complete the exercises at home to increase strength and avoid injury when running long distances. Lee provided some useful advice that I will put into practice. Highly recommend LW Sports Therapy.
